EXPERTISE
At CW Coachworks our passion for restoring classic and prestige vehicles is matched by our expertise in preserving their original character. With years of experience, we approach each project with a deep understanding of the car’s unique requirements.
Our blend of traditional methods and modern techniques ensures that every repair is performed with precision, honouring the craftsmanship of the past while incorporating the best practices of today.
Whether addressing age related wear or accidental damage, our goal is to achieve seamless, flawless results that allow these iconic vehicles to continue their journey on the road, preserving their legacy for future generations.
Paint work
At C W Coachworks, we expertly work with a range of paint systems, including Cellulose, Acrylic , 2K, and water-based paints. Each system is carefully selected and tailored to meet the specific demands of the project, ensuring a flawless finish every time.
Achieving an original manufacturer-quality finish requires both skill and precision. Matching aged or faded paint can be a complex process, beginning with correctly identifying the existing paint type. From there, we employ a meticulous colour-matching process, which may include the use of colour chips, advanced scanning technology, and, most importantly, the trained eye of our skilled professionals to ensure a perfect match.
Metal Work
Classic cars, having endured countless miles, inevitably show signs of wear—scratches, dents, and corrosion that affect their coachwork. These imperfections can leave a once-pristine vehicle looking worn. That’s why we are committed to delivering outstanding classic car coachwork, using our expertise to restore original parts or carefully craft new ones with precision.
We take great pride in traditional vehicle construction techniques, especially when it comes to shaping flat sheet metal into body panels. The English wheel, a highly versatile tool, allows us to create a wide range of panels with remarkable precision. By blending traditional gas welding with TIG welding, we ensure that every panel is crafted and repaired to the highest standards, while preserving as much of the original material as possible to maintain the vehicle’s authenticity.
Welding
We use traditional gas welding techniques, especially on coach-built cars, emphasizing the high level of craftsmanship involved in restoration work. By adhering to the original methods, you maintain the authenticity of the vehicles, ensuring that each repair blends seamlessly with the car’s original construction.
This dedication to preserving the historical techniques, whether working with aluminium or steel, provides clients with not just a repaired vehicle, but one that remains true to its original era. It’s a perfect balance of skill and historical appreciation.
Accident Repairs
Repairing accident damage on historic and classic cars involves more than just fixing the visible damage, it’s about restoring the vehicle's character and authenticity. By focusing on repairing as much of the original structure as possible, you ensure that the car retains its unique history.
When new parts are required, we manufacture them in-house to match the original specifications ensuring continuity in both form and function. It’s a balance of repair, preservation, and ingenuity that keeps these vehicles true to their heritage.
Ash Frame Repairs
Ash wood is commonly used in the original construction of these vintage cars, providing flexibility and strength, but over time, areas can rot or weaken. By carefully removing and replacing the damaged sections with new ash, we restore the car’s structural integrity while retaining its original design. This process not only ensures that the car can withstand stresses of use but also preserves the authenticity of its construction.
Such meticulous work keeps these classic vehicles true to their origins, ensuring that every curve and line of the body rests on a solid, historically accurate foundation. It’s a key part of bringing these beautiful coach-built cars back to life.
Polishing
Polishing the paintwork on a classic car requires more than just skill-it involves an understanding of the car’s history, and the type of paint materials used in its original construction. Hand polishing can provide a more controlled, delicate approach for older, softer paints, while machine polishing is ideal for tougher finishes or larger surface areas.
Identifying the type of paint, whether it’s lacquer, enamel, or a more modern paint finish, ensures that the correct polishing technique is applied to avoid damaging the surface. This level of precision and care not only restores the paint’s shine but also preserves the car’s original beauty and value. By choosing the right method, the paintwork can regain its depth and vibrancy, making the car look as close to its original showroom condition as possible.
